Blade Runner City (EEVEE)

Summary

This Sci-Fi City animation was created in 4 days with Blender EEVEE for a friend’s Original Soundtrack. It is inspired by the 1982 Blade Runner while taking elements from Blade Runner 2049. I have a potato system, so the only way to render this quickly was with EEVEE. I had to finish as quickly as possible, so I set the native resolution to 550p and did aggressive post-processing and upscaling to achieve the final result.

Rough Development Concepts

I modeled the buildings in these concepts but I felt they were to cartoony and futuristic so I replaced them with assets in the final render, but ultimately the overall look and tone were established with these

First Version Of Opening Shot

Most of the camera angles and layouts were fixed in this version itself, the buldings and textures were modified for the final version along with some lighting and volume changes

Greyscale To Raw EEVEE Render (1280x550)

Raw EEVEE Render (1280x550) To Final Output

All of the grading, post-processing and editing was done with Davinci Resolve. Fog Stock Footage was composited to convey subtle movement within the volumes. The Color grade was towards a warmer tone to contrast with the cool native tone to establish a retro feel. Film Grain, Motion Blur and Camera Shake were added. After everything was done, debanding was applied. The Raw Renders were upscaled with partly with Photoshop (Batch Tool) and mostly with Davinci Resolve superscale to 1440p
