Blank

Hi guys I would like to share with you a new project of mine called Blank which you can buy as a physical print online here: https://society6.com/product/blank286807_print#s6-6641867p4a1v45 I used Photoshop for the bulk of the work but Blender played a significant role, and I haven’t seen it used this way yet so I thought I might share with you the creation of this piece.

As I mentioned, I used a mixture of photography, Blender, and Photoshop. The sky is a picture that I took, but for the hand I used Blender. Here is how I did it:

Firstly, I downloaded a hand model off of blendswap http://www.blendswap.com/blends/view/81285

I placed the camera in the front view and set it to orthographic with a scale of .290

Next, I used the decimate modifier to get the lowpoly look

Then (after applying the modifier) I setup a simple wireframe shader

I set the render resolution to match that of my sky photograph, I used 500 samples because I noticed that I would get broken lines when going lower. Also, very important, make sure that the “Transparent” box is selected in the film tab.

Here is what the final hand looks like

Next, I pasted the hand over my photograph in photoshop

Then, using the magic wand tool, erase all of the black of the hand

Then, with the hand layer selected, I used the magic wand tool to select different faces of the hand

Then, I duplicated the sky layer and used my magic wand selection as a mask

After unlinking the duplicate sky layer from its mask, I moved the sky layer at random

Kept on repeating that until I got this

And after some color grading in lightroom I ended with this final picture. Thank you for viewing! Also, if you like this you can purchase it as a print in my shop (for the next two days there is free international shipping) https://society6.com/product/blank286807_print#s6-6641867p4a1v45 I’d love your feedback on this piece, Cheers!

Reminds me oldschool polish poster arts. For me - awesome.

Thank you!
