Blender 2.27 crashes when I try to load an image.

Rather annoying. I’m trying to make an Image texture in 2.27 for the first time, what happens is that I add my mesh, my material, then my texture. I click ‘Image’ and then as soon as I hit ‘Load Image’ button the program crashes. Kinda like when 2.25 when you selected an empty I guess…

Using WindowsXP

I just reformated the harddisk (again!) so there are not any old .Bpip files floating around, I just downloaded 2.27 yestreday.

Hrm, that’s strange. Does the same thing happen when you choose ‘Image Browser’ from the window type menu? Do you have quicktime installed?

Same thing here. Only happened once though, can’t reproduce it.

reinstalling quicktime helped me without formatting. Same .bpibs

(I still had 5, just installed 6.× and all gifs were loaded without crashes)
::: it doesn’t recognize animated gif’s, at least I wasn’t able to do it

but - 227 doesn’t recognize all my avi codecs, have Pinnacle board with
it’s hw codecs and it seems to steal the show - on another machine they
are all listed …

did anyone actually figured out how to use armature’s bone naming
(head, arm etc. stuff) ?

Hm I don’t think that’s the problem over here, because when it crashed, I reloaded Blender and went to load a picture in the same directory, so it should have crashed again, but it didn’t.

edit: the above and the fact that I already had quicktime 6 installed

maybe it begun to have a mind of it’s own

tedi i feel you may be having CODEC conflicts, it is pretty common if you have installed codec packs like NIMO.

its suggested that you remove ALL your codecs, and codec packs and then install INDIVIDUAL codecs as you need then.

i personally have 3 codecs which will cover ALL of my needs.

my favorite “decoder” (also know as filter, only decodes, but doesn’t encode) is FDDshow
it will decode

Divx
Xvid
MPEG layer 1-4
WMP
real media (i belive but don’t quote me on this one LOL)

etc…

but if you want ENCODING then you will need the Divx codec from Divx or the Xvid codec (which is FREE, with no licence like Divx i think)

then you should not have codec issues

Alltaken

Have you tried using the ‘Enable All Codecs’ option in the ‘System & OpenGL’ preferences? Also, is this behaviour different to what happens in 2.26?

hey, guys, thanx for your attention, sure I did check all of these options,
but this is just a funny thing I noticed on one particular machine with hw,
also in some other little apps codecs don’t get listed, but they DO get ALL
listed in video editors I have (movie eXtreme, pinnacle’s studio and, of
course virtual dub). They don’t get listed in swish and similar stuff (on
this particular machine). On another with about same software installed,
it does get listed all. Funny, but nothing to worry about, it doesn’t affect
my workflow at all. I noticed this when avi codecs were first introduced -
I don’t remember was it publisher 224 or what - yes, I cheated on NAN’s
key and had blender on more than one machine - they got bankruped
JUST because I did that …
:expressionless:
Anyway, I stilll love to get stuff I do with Blender rendered with creator
223, on an ancient WinLinux, because it’s 40% faster and despite all my
lazyness I can actually write shell script to get stuff rendered. In mjpg.

What about bone names 227 ??? What does it do ??? does it have some
useful functions?

Aha! I can load images by pressing the little button next to ‘Load Image’. I don’t get to browse, but it does work.
