Blender 2.5 requirements for Ubuntu

Hi.
Blender 2.5 crashes the display after briefly showing the splash screen on my new Ubuntu 10.04 linux install.

I am using a Dell PC with its on-board graphics which works fine with Blender 2.49.
Does 2.5 require better graphics hardware? Do I need to install an alternative driver with 3d acceleration?

I think you need to remove a dir in your blender dir named “python”. It might be hidden.
