Blender 4.5.2 face orientation displaying white for front facing normals

Hello,
I recently upgraded to Blender 4.5.2, however I seem to be having some issues with the face orientation overlay. Where it used to show blue for the front facing normals it is now showing white. I am not sure how to fix this, Google told me to go into theme settings select 3d viewport and change the face orientation front colour, but I am not sure what I am supposed to be changing this to.

Hi,

Seems it’s the place where you can change both back and front face orientation colors. Have you recalculated your normals both outside and inside while hitting alt+n buttons to see if changes applied?

Also, don’t forget to save your preferences after you’ve made any changes. Click on the bottom left hamburger menu and click “Save Preferences”. Also, you can check “Auto-Save Preferences” option above, so that you wouldn’t need to do all that manually.

I don’t think there is an issue with the normals, it just doesn’t seem to be displaying the outside normals as blue, it seems to be using white instead. I am not sure if this is something that Blender has changed in 4.5.

Do you mean something like this? (the outside recalculation has been applied to the top extruded part of an object).

Hi there,
In Blender 4.3.2 it would look like this (image below):

Whereas now in Blender 4.5.2 it looks like this:

What I want to do is make Blender 4.5.2 look the same way that 4.3.2 did.

Try setting Vertex Group Weights to None while in Edit Mode.

IT’s the right place, just set the alpha value of the blue color something other than 0 , like 0.5 !

Devs just change face orientation behavior, by default it only shows backface as red

Thank you everybody, @sozap and @goorman both of your ideas worked, but I have marked @sozap as the solution just because that was the one I had started doing

Do you have any idea why they changed this, in my opinion it just seems confusing in that it used to show them all.

I think its pretty better now as you can clearly see the scene and understand where you looking at

Yeah I do think in the long term it could be better, just really confused me when I upgraded I was used to seeing the blue.

Now you can have it activated all the time , rather than using it once to inspect…

Oh yeah, I hadn’t actually thought of doing it like that. Actually that might be really useful as you don’t have to remember to check the normals.

yeah, it’s weird that they decided to change that in a LTS update , it’s supposed to be bugfix only not changing features…

Anyway, it’s not a big deal either !
