Blender all of the sudden acting "laggy".

All of the sudden lately my blender has been acting funny. Most notably with the box selection tool. When I click to start creating a box selection, most of the time it doesn’t start drawing the rectangle until seconds after i clicked. And if I scale the box quickly, it lags behind my cursor like its stuck in jelly. I also notice a lot of this “jelly lag” when resizing my views in blender… they lag horribly behind my cursor. It wasn’t doing this 2 days ago… now it is… even with a blank project open.

I checked the “Common Problems” sticky (which by the way needs to be updated) and everything seems ok… OpenGL is working and everything. I have not updated video or any other drivers recently… it just started happening out of the blue. And my system is well up to spec.

Any ideas?

Maybe you have a virus.

Have you tried brining up the Task manager and seeing if you have a CPU hog in the list?

No… it’s not a virus

It could be that you recently changed the antialiasing setting in Nvidia Control Panel >> Manage 3D Settings. If so, just make sure that the global setting for antialiasing is “Use Application setting.”

It’s also possible that you disabled Aero. Blender works faster on some systems with Aero turned on.

Atom’s suggestion (not the virus part) also sounds promising. If you downloaded something recently, like a utility or a background application, it might be giving you trouble. If you can retrace your steps a little, maybe there’s something you changed recently that could be causing this.

Eureka, that’s it. It was that I disabled Aero… one of my games doesn’t run well with it enabled. I would have thought that would have the opposite effect. Odd.

Thanks a bunch! This should be added to the “Common Problems” sticky.
