I still dont like the wings, but I have some new ideas.
At the moment they look a bit rounded and rubbishy, this is a common problem with low-poly subsurfed objects. I think the way you did the front spoilers is right. The wings should look more like that- i.e. small, thin, lightweight design; in the style of carbon fibre.
this is a good example in my opinion of well done canards on a modern design. Though I never copy anything personally. I just look at them and think how mine would be cooler…
Edit: I think me and lightning were having the same thoughts at the same time… lol… also notice how the graphics are stuck on top of the panels on this plane…
Yeah, that example by deathguppie was exactly what I was aiming for! The wings look even better swept forward like in that photo, so please disregard the note in my annotations.
EDIT:
also notice how the graphics are stuck on top of the panels on this plane.
^^ Another good idea (I liked the panels you had at the start, why not combine them with the flames instead of replacing them? That would make it look more realistic)
EDIT2: I see that’s already been said, so +1 votes I guess
What are canards? I googled them and came up with a bunch of ducks. Is it the small wings? That SU-37 isn’t really showing what these “Canards” Are. A little help?
Canards
In aeronautics, canard (French for duck) is a type of fixed-wing aircraft in which the tailplane is ahead of the main lifting surfaces, rather than behind them as in conventional aircraft. The earliest models, such as the Santos-Dumont 14-bis, were seen by observers to resemble a flying duck — hence the name.
The term canard has also come to mean the tail surface itself, when mounted in that configuration.
In English, canard also means hoax (but, in contemporary French usage, it means newspaper as in Le Canard Enchaîné). In the field of computing, it has also acquired the meaning of “confused and mistaken belief”.
You kind of want to picture the wind moving accross your shape. Everything wants to look like it’s flowing together, from a point starting at the tip. I drew in the intake vents angled back further from the top down, because they look like they are going to suck in you exhaust otherwise. Also your wings need to look a lot more solid if you want it to be believable. Shape them into the plane, make the base wider and the end narrower, and cut off the tip. You don’t need it.
Edit: believablity has nothing to do with real or not real. It has to do with weather or not you mind is able to accept what you are looking at. Your eyes will notice certain things right away. Like a fat girl with tiny little legs horse riding . You can’t make it work unless her feet are in the stirrups.
Sharpened Wings, moved back exhauste and swept canards. Moving back the canards certainly took down the Formula 1 feel, I didn’t texture the wings because it takes too long if I have to do it again, I messed with exhaust but intakes look no good anywhere else.
Random bumps, extrusions, and hills and valleys, usually planar. Used in 3D modeling and animation to add interesting detail, like that on the surface of the DeathStar.
