blender crashes when I use a 4096 X 4096 texture

Blender 2.6 crashes when I try to use a 4096 X 4096 image in the UV editor.
Is it normal?

More info might be helpful; your system specs, and what version of blender.

Not normal as far as know.

I use Ubuntu, 64 bit, ram 7,5 GiB and the last version of Blender
