hi
i downloaded the latest blender version (2.71 13-6-14) to try around with volume shaders
i set up a little smoke&fire scene and the simulation in solid view works good
but when i am going to rendered view it only renders 1 sample until it crashes^^ this happens all the time
(i can only cender with CPU)
ok -maybe i expressed it bad. what i wantet to say : my PC is not able to render GPU, only CPU -i know that fire and smoke rendering with the volume materials is only possible to render with CPU so far (forgot about that and thought it would be important to mention^^)
so there are no tips ?
I’ve just had 2.71 freeze on CPU, harder crash than just Blender. Screen blanked out, no response from computer. Alt tab or CTRL-Alt-Del not working.
Simulating smoke seems ok, but rendering it in Cycles… No dice yet.
If I had to guess, I’d suspect it’s not freeing memory for some calculation when it moves on to the subsequent tiles. It’s because it’ll render fine for the most part without too much weirdness and then the crash occurs abruptly somewhere past the halfway point. (Almost like it’s continuing its use of RAM that should be reserved for other things. Like the OS or drivers.)
Win32 build. XP SP3. MSVC+2013 redistributable installed. 4GB RAM. AMD Phenom II X4 940. ATI Radeon 4200HD.
