Hey guys. I do a lot of work with programming in Unity, and I thought to myself, i’ll give Blender a little go, learn some basic 3D modelling.
But everytime I run Blender, after 1-2 minutes it keeps crashing, I get some sort of Nvidia OpenGL error code 3 and then my pc shuts down. I tried Googling the error but nothing comes up.
It makes no sense it can’t be my specs, but here they are anyways.
My Specs
GPU - GeForce GTX 660 / AMD Radeon HD 59XX or something like that, but the Radeon one I only use for watching tutorials / videos etc.
CPU - AMD Phenom™ II X4 955 Processor
Mem - 8GB RAM
O/S - Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
My Drivers
GPU - v.334.89 fully updated with GeForce Experience
CPU - Lastest AMD drivers from site and their download tool
I have tried
re-installing all drivers
re-installing blender and tried other version then the current 2.69 (I think it is)
Also reformatted my hard drive last night and clean installed windows
Hi, these errors are mostly hardware related, Blender use OpenGL for viewport drawing.
Not many user have AMD and Nvidia mixed in one system, this is the only thing different on your system compare to most users.
First I would do is remove the AMD card, there was problems with older AMD/ATI cards and Blender but your card is not that old.
There is a crash.txt in one of your tmp folder if Blender crash, may you get some information from it.
Blender and Unity is a good combination, would be a shame if you can´t get it to work.
But but, if i remove my AMD GPU i can’t have two screens haha i’ll give it a go when i get home and give it a test. Same with the crash.txt i’ll give that a look too. Thanks for the suggestions, and i’ll update this after testing
Aye i’ve heard a lot of good stuff with the combination so hopefully i can get Blender up and running soon and get myself familiar with the basics atleast
Actually I’ve recently had a similar issue in cycles and yafaray with an opengl issue crashing blender. It said it was a time out issue of some sort. My main GPU is a nvidia gtx 560se and when I took it out and put in my old radeon 6670 the problem vanished. Try taking out the gtx card first that may help.
@mib any idea where the tmp folder would be located? Tried searching in windows explorer, found no such file.
@Jaredcfw The reason I upgraded to the gtx 660 is for gaming which I do alot more then blender, I’ve only just started getting into blender and it’s crashing on the default blender scene after changing views a few times. And it would not be convenient for me to keep swapping GPU’s over depending on what I’m going to be doing in the next few hours ^^
Well because I can’t edit my post because it’s waiting for approval by admin,
I just thought i’d let you guys know that taking out my AMD card has made Blender stop crashing. Obviously Blender isn’t a fan of people combining AMD and Nvidia Looks like i’m going to have to buy a cheapo Nvidia card so I can keep both my screens and use Blender.
I would have guessed you are overclocking the X4. They are fun to play with but they run hot and become unstable when overclocked without sufficient cooling. I am imagining the power supply you are running. The 660 takes 150W so the AMD may require the same.
