Blender Freezes

Hi,
I’m currently working on a relatively simple scene using 3.51 but I’m unable to render in viewport…It freezes on the first sample as soon as I hit render, only using 2.9 gig of 6 gig GPU memory, changing to CPU makes no difference.
I have the same issue in 3.5 but it renders ok in 2.93.

I’m quickly loosing patience with Blender…experiencing more and more issues with every new release.
Would appreciate any help.

Which render are you using?

Hi goorman,
Sorry I should have mentioned I’m using Cycles.

Hi,

In preferences, in System menu there’s a Cycles Render Devices tab, just make sure using GPU, but not both of them.

Yea I only have RTX enabled with Optix

Have you updated your GPU drivers as well?

According to nvidia console they’re up to date yea…this is an issue I’ve been having intermittently since 3.0 really, so for quite a while…for intanse the scene rendered fine yesterday.

Have you been checking your log crash file?

No, where is that located?

Hold on, I’ll give a link

Here you go:
https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/troubleshooting/crash.html#crash-log

Ok I’ll take a look at that…thank you

I’m not sure it will create a log, it’s not actually crashing, it’s just freezing

Hm, okay then

Well, maybe you just forgot to turn off denosing in viewport?

One more thing: try to switch from OptiX to CUDA and see if it the problem will appear

I have tried with denoise on and off, same issue…I’ve noticed it’s still rendering in the background according to the task manager, but the screen just freezes

same on CUDA

Can you record some short video of that freezing moment and drop it here?

I wouldn’t know how to record video…I’m not that technically minded really hence the problems I’m having
There’s nothing to see really, everything is as normal until it gets to the first sample then the screen just freezes.

hm… really some strange shit out there

But once again, if you gonna run that same scene in 2.93 everything’s fine, is that right?
