Blender Guru Xmas Comp - WIP

First render of character for the final composition. Needs a lot of work, hair, textures, rigging etc.

How’s it looking?

Please be honest, love feedback.

Adam

boots look a bit rubbish. they are too thick and the soles look too chunky, poor kid would have a hard time walking in those! the rest is looking good though

She looks great, very expressive. Perhaps a texture applied on her boots and a zipper on the jacket. A little detail about her kerchief could make it more interesting. And a seam in her clothes.

Thanks for the critiques, have made some changes already, starting to get to where I want to be, still a lot more work to do with textures to add detail. May go for a hat instead of the band to save time, less hair to think about.

Adam

Perhaps I may be wrong but the top of her boots should be turned inward.
What do you think of giving more volume to her hair, combing the bangs a bit more?

the boots look great now, the jacket body section looks too blocky, like a life preserver rather than a puffy jacket, make the sections a bit rounded like the arms, but not so extreme and like CCTrevis suggested, a zipper of some kind would make it better.

Thanks again for the messages. Have made some more changes and started working on textures. Still some remodeling planned. Hair has gone for now, will have to give Kent Trammells tutorial a quick look at again. Lots to do but not enough time.

Again, any comments welcome.

Adam

she’s so cute.

Have made some changes, added details, but still not happy with jacket, shape still isn’t right and not keen on the pink. Knitted texture on the head band and scalf is to big, needs to be same as gloves.
As yet there is nothing inside the coat and you can see into the void as the top of the coat, need to add something inside.

Adam

Some minor chnages, starting to feel a little happier with how things are going.

Once again, please let me know what you think.

Adam

Yes, I agree, the boots look much better! I prefer the version in the post submitted 21-Nov-13, 06:06 where the gloves and band are solid color and the jacket is shorter. The zipper came out great! Would be interested to know how you created it. I think the jacket still looks too much like rubber. The indents to indicate the quilted stitching go way too far in. Makes it look like rubber segments rather than quilted fabric. Over all she is very cute!

In your post nr 9 the jacket looks better than in post 10. Did you change the whole material or just the color?

Latest version of the little girl, getting close to what I like, although nothing like I imagined it.
Tried some rigging with no luck, will try again. Having trouble with rigify, not creating all the controllers correctly.

Have gone with sculpted hair, might change that, will see how much time I have.

Adam

The jacket is now much better. I liked the folds in the fabric, next to seams. It’s looking very realistic. What did you do with the lighting? It seems that the lighting is burning scene.

Are her parents being torn apart by velociraptors off screen or something? Her face looks both terrified and truamatised

Scene is starting to come together. Getting some strange artifacting on jacket.
Since this render I have added more life to the scene.

Wasn’t happy with the fake snow being moved by sled so have now opted for particles, for next render.

As always, comments are more than welcome.

Adam

Did you sort the rigify thing? If not check that blender isn’t blocking the script, go to system preferences > file > tick Auto Execution: Auto Run Python Scripts.

You have to do this before you let rigify create the rig

coming together nicely, she still looks terrified though

This is the image so far.
Having now had some time away from it and some good constructive critasism I realise that I have been trying to work with a model that needed to be reworked. After a weekend off I will have another go at the main model, have even done a bit of out and about research to improve the look.
Comments are welcome, but remember things are going to change, just hope I have time.

Adam

this is looking really nice…id suggest trying to “Pixar” her up a little if you get what I mean. Make the eyes glossier, and the expression a little less exaggerated etc…I like the new coat, suits the scene much better
