“Shanghai Follies” is an upcoming animated feature set in Vancouver, BC during the Great Depression. It’s a family drama with fantasy elements portraying the world of vaudeville, Chinese acrobatics, and magic. We are building a creatively driven team to produce a stylistically bold, independently financed animated feature film. Designed for initial theatrical release, the film combines toon-shaded CG animation with rich, stylized environments to create an inspired aesthetic with emotionally resonant storytelling. This project embraces emerging creative tools to create animation with a traditional sensibility.
We are looking for a CG Animation Pipeline Supervisor to lead the design and oversight of a lean, artist-friendly production pipeline—centered around Blender. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative, small-team environment and is ready to both lead and contribute hands-on in areas like modeling, rigging, lighting, compositing, and rendering as needed.
An initial 10 second teaser is scheduled for production between June and August 2025. Full production is scheduled to begin early 2026.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, document, and maintain a production-ready pipeline using Blender
• Work closely with film Director, Producer and creative leads across modeling, layout, animation, and lighting to optimize workflows
• Support interoperability of Blender with emerging tools and up-to-date add-ons.
• Troubleshoot workflow issues and implement efficient solutions without a dedicated software development or IT team
• Create and maintain naming conventions, file structuring, and backup protocols
• Assist directly in asset preparation, rigging, lighting setups, or rendering tasks where bandwidth or resources are constrained
• Guide the project’s use of rendering strategies—whether through local solutions or cloud-based services
• Based in B.C. Canada, particularly the Vancouver area, greatly preferred.
