Hi!
We are an early-stage AI startup operating at the exciting intersection of artificial intelligence and 3D computer graphics. We’re building innovative technology to automate complex visual content creation pipelines, tackling what we believe is a significant market opportunity. We’re a small, ambitious team looking for talented individuals to help us solve challenging technical problems.
Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Part-Time Blender/Python Developer to join our remote team as an independent contractor. You will play a key role in developing and automating sophisticated 3D workflows within Blender, leveraging your expertise in Python scripting (bpy) and ideally incorporating AI/Computer Vision techniques. If you enjoy tackling novel challenges in 3D automation and want to work on cutting-edge AI applications, this is a great opportunity.
First Challenge:
Develop a system to automatically analyze lighting conditions in 2D reference imagery and accurately replicate that lighting within a 3D scene in Blender.
This task involves:
- Using Python scripting (bpy) within Blender.
- Researching and implementing techniques for robust light estimation from images (likely involving Computer Vision / AI approaches).
- Using the estimated lighting data to automatically control Blender’s environment lighting (e.g., selecting/rotating HDRIs) to ensure 3D elements are lit consistently with the reference source.
- Successfully solving this will significantly impact our platform’s capabilities. This is the first of several interesting and technically demanding 3D automation problems you can help us solve.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Expert proficiency in Blender scripting using the Python API (bpy).
- Strong Python development skills (demonstrable experience beyond basic scripting).
- Solid experience OR a strong, demonstrable interest in Computer - Vision / Machine Learning, particularly applied to image analysis. - Direct experience or knowledge of light estimation techniques is highly advantageous.
- Familiarity with relevant CV/ML libraries (e.g., OpenCV, scikit-image; experience with PyTorch/TensorFlow is a plus).
- Good understanding of 3D rendering concepts, scene lighting, materials, and HDRI workflows.
- Proven ability to research, architect, and implement solutions to complex technical problems independently.
- Strong communication skills for effective remote collaboration.
Desirable Skills (Nice-to-Haves):
- Experience building robust 3D asset pipelines or automation frameworks.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP preferred, AWS).
- Experience deploying or integrating AI/ML models into practical applications.
- A keen eye for photorealism and image quality.
Why Join Us?
- Work on genuinely challenging problems at the forefront of AI and 3D graphics.
- Be part of an early-stage startup with a big vision and opportunity for impact.
- Potential for ongoing part-time collaboration on a variety of interesting 3D automation tasks as we grow.
- Collaborate with a small, dedicated team.
To Apply:
Please submit your proposal detailing your suitability for this role.
We are particularly interested in:
- Your specific experience with Blender Python scripting and building automation tools.
- Your background, projects, or specific interest in Computer Vision / AI, especially anything related to image analysis or light estimation.
- A brief description of your initial thoughts or potential strategies for approaching the automated light estimation / HDRI matching task described above.
- Links to relevant projects or a portfolio showcasing your skills.
We are excited to find someone passionate about solving complex problems and building the future of automated visual content creation.
