Per the title, looking to create a “Stamped metal” effect with geometry. Textures aren’t useful in this case(though useful in general for this I agree completely).
So an indentation with specific shape, formed by a reference object say, on one side of a mesh sheet with a matching protrusion on the other side in it simplest form.
Any thoughts on how to go about this? Been hammering away at Google and trying modifiers with not much luck.
Im new to Blender, so take this for whats its worth…
I took the default box, changed the shape (took the top corners and scaled them out so the sides would be slanted), deleted the top, added a Bevel and array modifier and then scaled the whole thing in the Z to make it thin. Added a plan and just moved the cube so the top was even with the top of plan and the bottom of the cube poked through.
Probably what I’ll end up turning too, had hoped for some sort of functionality built in though. Some of the deform mesh/shrinkwrap almost come close to it. Shrink in particular but, that doesn’t seem to play nice with either of the legs of the U style shape.
Thanks (i have a tendency to take the long way) …
Maybe there is an add-on which will do as you want ?
I just tried the same thing but instead of using a plan, i used a cube deleting three sides to create the channel. When moving the “stamps” down into place, the top of the channel cube would be seen through the stamps, but adding a boolean “fixed” that.
