Blender stuck on frame 1 rendering, black screen

When I attempt to render my blender animation, it doesn’t get past frame 1, and won’t even render a still image. I am using blender version 2.47, here are my specs:

This is for a class, so i HAVE to use 2.47.

What are your render settings. Attach or post a link to your blend file

This is my blend file http://www.pasteall.org/blend/18846

When I open the blend file no output format is selected but given the file size it looks to be AVI Raw, do not use this.
Set the output to an image sequence which you can then join to your final movie format or use something like Quicktime.

Also Cylinder.005 has got far too many vertices (65,000) and you then have a subsurf at level 2 added. Remove any doubles (lots and lots) or remake it.

Thanks I’ll try changing those things!
