Blender with python 3.3 on OpenSuse 12.2 (64bit)

Since Blender switched to python 3.3 i can’t get it to run on OpenSuse 12.2 anymore.

The Problem itself is not really realted to blender though.
There seems to be a bug in python 3.3 with the paths to lib and lib64.
This means python 3.3 doesn’t find some modules like atexit and time.
There is a workaround by copying the lib-dynload folder from the lib64 folder to the lib folder.

Unfortunately blender still crashes at startup because blender still doesn’t find the modules, although the python interpreter does.

Has anybody encountered similar problems on OpenSuse?
Is there maybe a workaround?

Same problems here, i use a python3.3 folder from a buildbot build and copy (overwrite) it to the svn build. Blender is working with this workaround.
I spoke about with mont29 (who cares about crappy suse :)) on #blendercoders, but I had not much time last days.
I am sure he find a solution, we have to wait a bit.

Cheers, mib.

@mib2berlin: good to hear, someone is working on this issue :slight_smile:

I made some progress though…
i tried a patch i found here: http://bugs.python.org/issue15631
this resolves the problem with python 3.3

Blender compiles fine with this patch.
There was one issue to resolve though.

The BF_PYTHON_LIBPATH is generated wrong by the Find_Python Module. Because of that, blender tries to copy the /opt/lib/python-3.3/lib folder to the installation folder, instead of the /opt/lib/python-3.3/lib64 folder.

So i changed the python related part of my user-config.py from

BF_PYTHON = ‘/opt/lib/python-3.3’
BF_PYTHON_ABI_FLAGS = ‘m’

to:

BF_PYTHON = ‘/opt/lib/python-3.3’
BF_PYTHON_ABI_FLAGS = ‘m’
BF_PYTHON_LIBPATH = ‘/opt/lib/python-3.3/lib64’

Now Blender works again :slight_smile:

This is still a ugly workaround though…
