BlenderGuru competition

Hello everyone! Here is my entry so far for the Blender Guru competition and I feel like I’m getting to the point of finishing, a couple of things that bother me right now are the texture on the shoes and the blanket but i really don’t know where to go with it, if you think it looks good now then just let me know but if you think it needs improvement, then your critiques are welcome  thank you very much and happy holidays!

High Res

Looks really good to me.

Guess if you were looking to do something with the shoes you could make them look older and more worn down… although I think they are fine the way they are. Blanket looks A-Okay to me too.

Great render
My only critique is that the shoes look brand new

That’s why I was thinking too, thanks for the comments

Also, to add onto what was already said, the texture doesn’t look UV mapped quite correctly. The back end of the shoes look like their texture has been shifted back to much, or the UV map needs tweaking.

Other than that the image looks pretty damn good!

Awesome works. Is that blender internal rendering?

Yeah I had some issues with th Uvs on this but I’ll get on it, and this is cycles, and thank you

Looks great, maybe you could reduce the roughness of the cardboard box and add a cardboard edge texture.
Great image though, nice work!

thanks
i dirtied up those boots and i just started a new render it should be done in a hour and a halfish, i’ve been rendering at 1000 samples in 1080p but i think for the competition im gonna go 3840x2160 just for a higher res, do you guys think there’s a lot of noise in the last one?? I’m wondering if i should raise the samples too, but 1000 seems to be doing a pretty good job

alright heres the new shoe texture let me know what you think and this is not a full render i just wanted to show the shoes

great work
I like that it tells a story

thank you, that was my goal

I’d add more detail to the snow, box and the gift box. The box shelter should show sings of water absorbtion on the borders where it meets the snow. And the gift box should have more than 2 colors on it. A little variation in color would go a long way. I think santa would agree with me. As for the snow… try to inhance the specularity to get that look when the light reflects of the small snowflake crystals. Look up some images of snow close-ups for reffrence.

I think that the absolutely white (snow?) on the wall is too clear as to what it is. Other than that great work.

the tin cans are too clean put some damage to them and dirt on them

I may come back to all your suggestions later, which i thank you for, but for now this is all i had time to do, so i hope you like it
link to deviantart for full effect!

Specular on the wall is very big and bright IMO. And I think there can’t be icicles on the box, I’m not sure.

the wall looks very strange, the bump map is a little large, the specular is very severe.
the tin cans may need rust
some of the snow seems to be floating?
i assume this is a morning shot, mabee change the lamp color to more yellow???
i like the snow and box, the shoes do look new but very nice

It’s looking good.

If you have a problem with the shoes, it is most probably to do with the shadow.
It looks as if the shadow is part of the sole image, and has been reversed, and used for both boots, so the shadow is actually the wrong way round on one of the boots objects.

Try using a non shadowed texture for the picture image, and back it up with a “true” normap map, that reacts and generates a shadow from the active light sources.

I like it though and hope it does well.

Cig.

Wow, why didn’t this get an honorable mention?
