Blender's Undo function is broken

I’ve noticed over time that Blender’s undo functionality has been getting worse and worse. Now it doesn’t track half of my edits and heaven forbid I move something in object mode and want to undo that change; It will literally change the mode to edit and undo my last edit on the model no matter how many changes I do in object mode. I don’t know what changed but it seems like every update Blender’s undo function gets worse and more broken. Has anyone else noticed this or am I just going schizo?

As far as i know the undo steps are “differently remembered” for object mode and edit mode.. so switching between them is a bad idea..

And.. i had no real problems with that.. maybe because i do not use too much undo steps. IDK

@Gameartist3d Just to make sure, do you have Global Undo enabled in the preferences? https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/editors/preferences/system.html#global-undo

Which Blender version are you on?

From your description it sounds like global undo is not working correctly. It shouldn’t have any issues switching between modes and undoing changes across mode changes too.

They fix some of this in 5.3 luckily.

I am on 5.0.1. I checked the Global Undo setting and it was off. I have been updating Blender for years so maybe this was a new setting that is off by default for versions upgrading? Thanks for the quick reply.

It’s very possible that when Global Undo got added it kept the previous behavior and turn the setting off in your preferences.

Hopefully this gets rid of the Undo issues for you! I couldn’t work without Global Undo

agree on the issue - but try undo in Autodesk Alias to see something truly terrible

side note: fun fact is that Blender 1.0 had no undo actually

Alias is horrible indeed

well yeah it forces you to use the queue tool to edit the modeling features … also to remove it
makes sense but it is quite strange not to do that with undo
