Blending LIfe Dick Dastardly

I like the idea of creating a life like image of a cartoon character so i chose Dick Dastardly, i’m in catagory B so there is a bit of room for caricaturisation, here’s a rough sketch to show the direction i’m headed.

That is a sweet idea! Great sketch too! I can’t wait to see where you go with this.

1,500th post

Dudebot13 Thanks for your reply, i’m looking forward to this, congrats on your 1,500th post.

Here’s the beginnings of my dastardly modeling, i like to work as low polly to start with to rough out the form and leave things like eyes, ears and nose till last.

I think this is a great idea! The diabolical style of the original is perfect for adaptation into 3D. I’m not altogether sure how it’ll work out as “lifelike and realistic” while keeping the cartoony feel of the original, but I’m willing to see how it goes. Please post progress as it comes.

Heh, very cool idea and a great sketch to work with. I also like the way you approach modeling, using few polygons to get the overall shapes. Looking forward to updates!

now that’s a very cool idea!

Sculpting that character is going to be so much fun for you… This is a great idea! Looking forward to following the progress.

your following Leonardo’s way over dramatic characteristic, perfect idea!

Thanks for looking in folks, here’s the latest update, i’ve go most of the topology in place now, i’ll do the eyes ears and mouth next.

Looks great! You might be able to stick the nose and chin out even more to get it to look more realistic. But it still looks great, awesome modeling man!

Thanks for looking in Dudebot13, here’s the unwrap.

I love this model, it’s just hilarious. Can’t wait to see what you do with it.

As for the UV map: yikes, you are making life hard for yourself by putting the nose up to the left that way. Even if your Gimp skillz are godlike in removing seams, you’re still looking at a difference of scale, making the resolution different.

Thank’s Eku. I split the nose because it sticks out too far to prevent unexceptable stretching, the resolution is fine as you can see from the model. I’m painting all my textures in blender so i can paint over the seams, which are mainly hidden behind skin folds.I know it looks odd but shouldn’t be an issue.

Ahh nice progress, although I think you should stick with the bigger nose and chin from the sketch which made him more recognizable.

Romeo Thanks, i don’t really want to make a cartoon character, more a caricature of how Dick Dastardly could look in real life all be it with exadurated features.

I’ve started to model the props now, here’s the beginnings of his goggles. Thanks for looking.
