its pretty crazy seeing what you can achieve with Geometry nodes.
and i’m sure i’ve only scratched the surface.
I think it happens in all physics-based collision detection…I see it a lot when using Havoc Physics Game Engine…
Static objects have collision detection and a few are supposed to sit in a basket or container… there is also constant gravity that causes them to react to collisions with the container, and the other objects and they start jumping around inside the container…on one occasion there was a glitch where they started to re-spawn as others jumped out of the container, and it continued till there were jumping garlic all over the place…
there’s a song in there somewhere…
Attack of the Killer Jumping Garlic!!
Blendoodle 154 (Cycles, Geometry Nodes)
This one was sparked by @Debuk 's post here: World color and shadows - #44 by Debuk
While I had come up with a seperate similar one, it was Debuk’s second RGB node that sparked the idea, what if i have one colour background, but a different colour ambient light?
The trees are from @Renzatic 's GeoTree .55: GeoTree: Procedural Trees in Geometry Nodes - #1147 by Renzatic
Noice.
Also, I just got a warning stating that I’ve replied to you three times, and I should send you a PM instead. Dunno why Forum Robot cares so much, but I guess rules is rules.
i am a scofflaw about that and ignore Mr 3x Only Bot. that one arches my eyebrow too, how would one have any discourse on discourse limited to just three?
ForumBot has no intelligence. Too bad. I am getting AI where I don’t care for it, but not where I really would like it.
Oh, I like the vibes in that one!
thank you!
Or maybe it’s smarter than we’re giving it credit for, and it’s planning something.
…makes you think.
Just wanted to hop by and say thank you for updating so regularly. Although I don’t know anything about what you’re doing I’m looking forward to it + it motivates. (Maybe for Halloween a pumpkin cat? :D)
thank you.
the long story:
it’s been so long since i did any 3d stuff… 20ish years with one exception, a quick little thing for a discord channel. and had been eyeballing blender for a bit, thinking i should learn it and see what’s changed (and what hasn’t) over that time. i had also been eyeballing houdini, and even unreal. so i joined a few related reddit channels, and after a bit, noticed a user posting daily, QGBD who posts on both RD and IG, but haven’t seen them here on BA , in the upper 700s. that finally sparked me to start doing and not thinking.
the idea was to learn something in blender, and apply it. each day. and, since i saw a video a couple years prior by struthless (link below), that would apply as well… something to again get my ‘creative juices’ moving, reconnecting to the muses that once had me drawing, painting, 3d’ing, etc daily. and have been lost with the banality of real life and “lack of time.”
of course, i don’t learn something new everyday, or it’s something very minor, as real life does still impinge. the pitfall of having multiple jobs (but i do enjoy those jobs, so they’re not really work … a blessing many unfortunately do not have). but getting something artistically done everyday is getting me back into the habit of doing so, and mayhaps reintroducing those muses, whatever they be. and of course doing, not just idly daydreaming.
currently most of the things i’ve done in the last 5 months has been working with GeoNodes. the idea of nodes is nothing new to me, but how to work with these specific ones (with, imo, some omissions that would be really nice to have, but new ones do still come out) to get them to do something … artistically useful … well that’s the challenge.
at some point, after job 2 settles down, i do want to move over to quick animations. probably similar to those ‘satisfying loops’ we’ve all seen, to get a better handle on animating in blender.
and eventually, when i feel very comfortable in Blender, i will probably put Houdini to the same kinda thing.
doing more music at some point as well… but everything must start with that first baby step. and this topic is my baby steps.
Thank you, too, for the explanation and background info!
Hits home, definitely. No matter how I put it, consistency is the most important factor and the way you laid it out for yourself with starting the habit sounds great.
(and also doing instead of thinking, so underrated, I often forget this)
Excited to see where the road takes you!
Interesting! Thanks for the background as it’s always fun reading them.
Constant doing is a great way I agree to ignore life’s chaotic nature, whether it’s the time waiting for ideas, or waiting for some motivation to power through huge projects.
