Bones problem to make an animation

Hi all,

I would like to make an animation of a letter (the animattion is a stretching of the letter) .
This one works very well. You can see it in the link below :

The problem is that when I rebegin the riggging all along, this one doesn’t work.
I have placed my bones, selected the letter and converted it to a mesh.
After having selecting the letter, I have selected the armature. and later I have clicked
Ctrl + Set Parent To.
I think we have to select only the superior bone.

You can see it in the .blend file.
If you can solve it, that would very good for my animation.

Thanks for your help,

OK, two things wrong with your file:

  1. Unapplied rotation & scale on your text mesh:

Change this by keying CTRL+A Rotation & Scale.

  1. Face Normals are not set, to change this, select all faces in Edit Mode, key SHIFT+N.

Then select mesh in Object mode, SHIFT+Select Armature, key CTRL+P => "Automatic Weights, then it works:

Don’t rotate, or scale meshes in Object Mode, unless you then apply the transforms, preferably do all edits in EDIT mode…

Cheers, Clock.

EDIT:

Give bones proper, useful names… and set the bones in the middle of the mesh from back to front:

Hello everyone,

I did a Ctrl + R and a Ctrl + S. The problem comes when I switch to edit mode.

Indeed the problem comes when I want to recalculate the normals,
I put myself in edit mode but when I type “Shift + N”.
instead of recalculating the normals, my letter writes “Shift + N” in text on the letter.
The letter is in text input mode (you can mark anything).

I tried “alt + C”, but it doesn’t work.

Your help is welcome,

A+
