I’m modeling a beak using a boolean modifier (as a beginner would do) to cut out a hole so it can be opened after I finish it in pose mode, but the face seems to not align with the shape I used to boolean it, and left behind a tris on lots of quads.
So i turn on the auto-smooth and use the Normal clean-up from the instant-clean addon and it seems to solve the problem
But when I turn on the solidify modifier for an outline, the problem is still there.
How do I fix this or prevent it from happening? (I still have an old save file.)
…well… you have a very dense topology… but you may do not need this… for you “cutting” the mouth…
In edit mode: simple select all faced of one part and split selection ( Y ) and hide the rest… model additonnal faces to make the inner side of the beak/mouth; open it slighlyt dito with other half; merge the mesh…
I’m planning to model a low-poly version using Retopology for the head part and then bake the details from the old one. Will the solidify modifier work on it? im kinda nervous
You may have to explain why you need a solidify modifier on the lowpoly version… of cours the “solidification” depends on the geomtry… and using this modifier with a normal map… will map on all other… (??)
Well… I use the solidify modifier to make an out-line for the cel shaded object to keep the look of comic style.(Sorry if it sound stupid I’m just experimenting with lots of stuff. )
The reason I wanted to make a comic style in the first place was because I wanted to make a surprise animation of one of the character from my favorite artist’s comic as a birthday serprice (without knowing his or her birthday ). Plus, this is a little challenge for myself before I start college.
Nontheless… challenges are mostly to restrict to a specific theme and/or timeframe to get out of the comfort zone and learn something new…
…the way you tried is simply… oh no… it’s not simple… it’s complicated:
too much unneeded problematic geometry
problems to further models detail into this geometry
the topologoy has no animation in mind and produces… problems
…so there are problems in every step…
Some people use sculpting for this and masking upper and lower part… but the are very used to sculpting… so if this has a deadline… then problery simple lowpoly modeling is the best… some subdiv and corrective modeling with the sculpting tools (not high poly sculpting) can be done later…
