Box select does not work on edges in UV editor

is it technically possible to enable box select to select edges properlly within the UV editor?

i’m using a simple cube UV to illustrate the function that i need,

the end result of that box selection should be this:

just to clarify, I wish to do this selection within the uv editor,
selecting the edges from the 3dview and having the same result (as I have done above) is not an option in my case.

Not at this time, no. Not until the UV editor gets some developer love. All bulk selection operators in UV editor work off vertices. Which is a great shame.

anyways i did find a hacky 2 step solution to this. so its good enough for me.
