Now he’s casting a huge shadow on the earth! Is that what you want? It makes the earth not look as real IMO.

yep, that’s deliberate, I was trying to give the image a seance of scale.

Maybe it’s the DOF then. Something about it makes it all look very small. When you’re dealing with objects at this size, would there be an appreciable DOF blur? I mean, if that bird is that big, then the camera could not be very close to it, meaning that the DOF range is going to be in the thousands of miles. Try doing a render with all of the objects in focus and see if it doesn’t just look naturally bigger.

actually, the original reason for adding the dof was to draw your eye towards the tallons and head, as i found that my eye ‘wanderd’ raerrther alot. anyway Ive turned down the DOF, the blur on the wings is motion blur.
