C&C on Sci-Fi Gun WIP

Hey All,

Because of school and other commitments, I haven’t been able to use Blender in close to five months now. Today I was finally able to sit down and work on an idea that has been nagging at me for a while. I’m really rusty with my modeling and there’s still a lot of little detail pieces I want to add (Not to mention Texturing and Lighting), But I want to get some C&C from y’all. What do you like? what needs work?

Thanks all,

maybe it’s the shader/material, but it looks a bit too “soft” and “bulky”.

Search for Fa-Mas and P-90 designs on google. they’re a good guide on “modern-ish” weapon thickness

Thank you ouraf. I did as you suggested and thinned the gun. I also adjusted how the clip fits and gave it a new scope. I feel like in the process it has become rather boxy. anyone have any thoughts on the boxyness (New word folks) of gun? As always C&Cs are more then welcome.

Things left to do as far as modeling are the barrel, the handle, and the fore grip. The fore grip looks more like something to a pump shot gun and less like something for an AR.

If you’re aiming at a shotgun style weapon, check a weapon called AA-12. it’s one of the most modern and exotic shotguns around. it’s way more compact than your idea, though.

Depending on what you want to do I can suggest you to:

- If you want to design your own weapons -

Study better real life weapons, their shapes, functional parts and start collecting pictures of them. Since you are going to do Sci-Fi weaponry, you also need to collect pictures of various hard surface objects, not necessarily need to be weapons and look at what other weapon concept artists are already doing and the design trends that are emerging.

- If you want to model Sci-Fi weapons -

Pick up an already made concept art and start modeling:

This is a good place to start, I personally like Aaron Beck style.
