Cabin in the Snow

Had fun making this one over the weekend. Any thoughts?
Created in Blender 2.81 and Edited in Photoshop
Ended up taking over 4 hours to render at 500 cycles.

how did you do the snow on the trees ?

Good work, congrats.

To make the snow on the trees I duplicated the leaves off of the tree and made the particles into one single mesh. I then used a remesh modifier on that mesh to create a sort of lumpy approximation of the trees shape. After that I sculpted out the little mistakes and bumps. I tried a few things from liquid simulations to particle sims and this is what turned out the best.

It’s definitely not the right way to do it but it worked! :joy:

Looks great!

The “right” way, is when you do it and it works. You did it, it worked, so its the right way.

Very good. Did you use Denoising? If so, which one?

Surprisingly, no I didn’t use any denoising.

Surprisingly clean render for just 500 samples, especially in the DOF areas and SSS. Excellent work.

I featured you on BlenderNation, have a great weekend!

Nice image! I really love how the snow piles up on the branches accurately, it just gives the extra real-feel!
