Camaro

Here’s a little render of a Camaro I did for a test with the 0.8a beta version of the Octane Nvidia CUDA render application.

Looks pretty good. How long did it take?

From start to finish it took an hour and a half (standard clocks on my EVGA gtx260 2nd edition). I probably could have stopped it much sooner but I ran it to max samples. I took shots of the render several times during the bake and combined them in photoshop to eliminate the fireflies and other goofs. Lots of fireflies in the alpha tests but it’s coming along nicely. Can’t beat realtime GI manipulation though wow.

Nice car!

Whats Octane like, in terms of a learning curve compared to Indio or Luxrender? Octane is unbiased?

4* from me.

It’s pretty simple at the moment because there aren’t a whole bunch of features ready yet. If you have experience with indigo you pretty much have the idea of how it works. It has some bugs and random crashes now and then in it’s current state also but it’s manageable with patience. It has a node system similar to blender and you can plug and play a lot of different options once they are all ready to go. Head to the octane site and check it out, it’s free so it only costs you a little time. Full version is of course not free but I’ve heard when it comes out it’ll be ridiculously reasonable.
