Campsite Stories

This has to be one of the most realistic projects I’ve ever done. The tents in the middle are from Kitbash3D’s Outlaw Pack. Check it out here. The first initial plan of this project was to do a waterfall scene but I kept hating whatever I did. Here are some of the test renders I did for it.

Then I totally scrapped the waterfall idea. Deleted everything but the foreground. Added a distant land, tents and the mountains. I think the sunset lighting with the sky texture from Unsplash added a-whole-nother vibe to it.

I also rendered out different passes like Beauty pass, AO pass, Mist pass and Volume Direct pass respectively.

After a few tweaks and post processing in Photoshop, it was ready to be posted.

Yeah, I agree that the waterfall didn’t work. Either one might work with a more stylized NPR look to the render, but neither looks realistic enough.

The scene you came up with looks great though!

Really nice. IMO the waterfall could be improved by giving it multiple layers so it’s coming down in sheets instead of one long piece, and adding more spray.

I do agree. These were just test renders to begin with but I thought there’s a lot more to change than just tweak a little bit. Therefore just decided to create a different render and approach strategically next time to do a waterfall scene.

Lovely work! It’s somehow realistic yet subtly stylized; kinda eerie and potentially ominous, but also cozy and inviting.

It’s so good, I can almost ignore my inner voice screaming at me to, “beware the hidden chickens of doom”.
