I’ve looked all over the web for a blender tutorial on how to create a flame that is more controlled than the default wild flamed fire that blender creates.
And, what’s more I’d like to create it in blue, pink, violet, green - a number of different colors.
So, can anyone out there create a flame fire like either of these two? (Note it is not just a single flame, but it is much more controlled, elongated flames). If they can do it in real life (http://www.lopi.com.au/lighting/tempest.html) then I would think Blender could do it too.
Is anyone up to the challenge? I would be very grateful or at least a tutorial on how to do it.
There are plenty of tutorial online to how to make a flame. I doubt that anyone will make another tutorial about things are there to grab (unless system of physics will change ).
All you have to do is to make a vortex forcefield and play with it a little.
Colors - I would do it in postproduction. Just take rendered flame and use some hue effect to change it’s color.
Thanks Madog. Yes, as I stated there are plenty of tutorials on fire and they are great if you want a camp fire, a fire place fire or any type of wild looking fire. What I want is a much tamer version of a fire as indicated in these images. I haven’t found one that teaches how to achieve this effect yet.
You won’t find a specific tutorial for every type of…anything. At some point you just have to play around and see what happens. Have you tried using a vortex force field as was suggested?
Thanks, K Horseman. Yeah, I know that I won’t find - and I haven’t - found the specific tutorial, but if I could find one that started off much closer to where I wanted to end up that would be helpful. Like I said, most tutorials have to do with wild fires, not tame ones and adding a vortex to that - I’m sure wouldn’t get me what I want.
Can someone help me out here? I’ve been working on this for 4 hours and despite Madog’s help, I just can’t seem to get the attached blend fire to spiral.
I’m trying to get a smooth as clearly a defined spiral as possible with few or no flame tongues leaping out.
I did what Madog suggested and used Gottfried Hofmann’s flame tutorial (found here: http://cg.tutsplus.com/category/tutorials/blender/page/3/) but applying Madog’s technique to it kind of gives me a swirl to the flame, but I’d like more of a spiral.

I’ve managed to achive something like this. You have to break flame with something (force for example). Try different possitions, setups.
Value of turbulance strenght have noise in it (animation window).
Have fun
PS. I have no idea what have you done with camera, but it’s strange one and I cant render, so I’m not sure about render effect
