I thought I read somewhere that there was a way to add a sky map to the “World” in Blender so that the sky could be viewed 360°. I hope I wasn’t dreaming.
I don’t want to use a plane or a sphere etc. as this seems like a workaround rather than a solution. There must be a better more professional way. In Cinema 4D you add a “Sky” object then just select your sky map and it maps so that you see sky 360°.
This is where you can map a sky to the world texture, Oh I am using version 2.49 for this. Also on the “Map To” tab you can turn on, horizon and zen up, “zen down” may also be applied though It has been a while since I have used this feature, so not absolutely certain about the “zen down” for sky maps.
Thanks Blue Spider. I am trying to find those same settings in 2.5 but it is different. I found a setting to load a background but it doesn’t map like it should. You can only see the sky in “Perspective View” and it doesn’t start at the horizon but covers the ground too. If someone knows how to map a “Sky Image” onto the “World” in 2.5 please chime in.
I want to have a sky image to wrap/tile 360° so if I have a cube in the viewport, then i will see a sky texture in the background even if I rotate my view like this Cinema 4D Render. http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/893/worldn.jpg
Thanks Richard, but I want to use an “image” of a Sky for my sky. I don’t want to just map the sky image to a plane either, but I want the sky image to “tile” in the world view so that wherever I rotate the sky will be visible like in the link.
Hi, If you want to add an image to the world sky all you have to do is first select the world settings button(looks like a globe) then go to the textures panel(looks like a checkerboard) you should then see that the texture is applied to the world instead of the object.
From there its only a matter of adding an image texture and applying the correct mapping settings, which depend on what type of image you are using.
