Can you auto-smooth normals in beveled Bezier curves?

Like with regular geo where you can switch between smooth/flat shading and check the auto smooth option. If you apply a bevel object to a curve so it looks like 3d geometry, is there a way to auto-smooth that?

I know you can if you convert it to a mesh but just wondering if you can do it while it’s still a curve.

You can do it with the Edge Split Modifier.
