Can't delete mirrored object

I’m doing a tutorial here: http://cgcookie.com/blender/2010/06/28/stylized-dragon-part-3/ After copying one of the teeth in edit mode, I modified it and made copies and moved the transformed talons to the toes. Somewhere along the way, I ended up with a mirrored talon, and I can’t get rid of it. It appears in object mode but not in edit mode unless I am in wire frame display. I can’t delete either of the two talons. In Edit Mode Wireframe display, they both appear as though they are the mirrored copy of an original talon (grayed out). To help explain what I mean, I’ve included screenshots below. Can someone tell me how I can get rid of these two objects?

This is in object mode in solid display:

They may be vertices you’ve hidden (shortcut H). Unhide with Alt+H in edit mode

Damn! I should have tried that before I posted. Wasted at least a couple of hours on this. Thanks so much. (They’re gone.)
