Can't get a crease using the crease brush in Sculpting Multires mode

I’m doing a tutorial here: http://cgcookie.com/blender/lessons/11-sculpting-the-shirt-with-multires/ He is showing how to use the crease brush to make a seam in the sweater/shirt. When he does it, he gets a sharp, well-defined crease. I attempted to use the same settings. When I do it I get a jagged looking mess. I’ve had this sort of problem in other sculpting tutorials I’ve tried. Can someone tell me how I can get the same smooth, well-defined crease with the crease brush like he gets in the tutorial?

Screen shot from the tutorial:

This is what I get using the crease brush at the same settings:

Your mesh topology is not good for doing a crease where you want. The polygons should flow along the direction you want to cut unlike your mesh where you cutting across the diagonals of each poly which will give a jagged result unless you have a very high poly count. Look at the mesh in the video and see the polys follow along with the direction the crease is made.

Thanks. I knew my typology was messed up. I tried using the crease brush along a path of polygons and I see the difference. I wouldn’t know where to begin to fix the underlying topology. Just another sculpting tutorial I’ll have to quit.
