Can't see subdivision on linked objects when in edit mode

When I have a bunch of linked objects, each with visible subdivision mofidier, and I enter edit mode for one of them, the modifier becomes temporarily (until I exit edit mode) invisible for the rest of the lined objects. So I can only see subdivision on my edited mesh, but the rest of linked objects are only shown as low-poly meshes, with no subdivision on them.
I don’t know if this is a bug or an intentional performance optimization, but I don’t like it. I would like to be in edit mode, and instantly see my changes on all linked objects as they are subdivided.
Can I achieve this?
