Car Engine/Mechanical Modeling Tutorials

Hey all,

Hope I`m posting this in the right place. If not, apologies and could a mod please move to the right forum.

Just wondering if any of you know of any good modeling tutorials for car engines, engines in general, crankshafts, pistons, cogs/gears, gearbox housings etc? (Not sure if that last term is even correct but hopefully you get what I mean.)

Ive googled and found some good tuts but thought Id ask here too.

Thanks

Don’t expect a tutorial for everything you can imagine. You should learn modelling tools doing tutorials for modelling any random stuff and then you can model anything and the question becomes how to find good reference for whatever you are trying to model… …also, an engine is sort of vague description, even if you find a tutorial for one engine it’s not going to be any good for another(well, it might be good for learning, but so will be a tutorial for anything else) since there are thousands of kinds or engines in all shapes and sizes.

Thanks for the reply Martin. Tbh, I wasn`t really expecting anything. Simply asking if there were any good tuts out there to get started with. I fully appreciate what you say and have done numerous tuts that covered modeling many different things.

I also appreciate that one “engine” is different from another but the basics will be similar which is really what I was asking about.

Maybe I should have worded my post better.

Thanks again though.

Take a look at the link:
There are ways to do this using Booleans, but I think what you basically need is a way to deal with the topology.

Many thanks for the reply Kim.

I know about and I`m subscribed to both Ponte Ryuurui and John Dickinson and have done several of their tuts. Both exceptionally good modelers I have learned a lot from.

I`m also subscribed to mx2 but have not done tuts from him/them.

I`ve not come across Afikaniz3D before though so will check that out.

Looks to be some good stuff there.

Thanks again.
