They look good in that style. I think you should raise the mouth higher on the face because it make them look a bit like apes of pigs. Also make some renders in a more normal camera angle say frontal or 3 quarters in eye level. The unnatural views makes it hard to judge the figure and give odd messages these pictures remind of: 1st picture - view from a monster attacking; 2nd picture - pervert; 3d picture: sniper target.
I understand the animal ressemblance, and it’s interesting to point out the mouth Z-position issue; although the actual lower mouth position is a possibility in the design, it may be best suited for a facial expression instant in 2D Cartoon (or in this case, a blend shape key-frame in 3D Cartoon) instead of the main mouth position. While making the mesh, I remember I’ve decided to even lower the mouth a bit more than usual for some reason. I think will be good to retake the issue for the main position, while I still don’t have blend shapes.
Also, a pertinent observation for the camera angles. Indeed strange camera angles, because they were mostly choosen on the criterion that screenshots should look good to post. As you may infer already, the mesh still shows up SO weird in MOST of the possible positions that it wasn’t interesting for my image-collection to take horrible screenshots at the time. Of course, as soon as I’m able to fix most ot the actual mesh problems, I’ll be bringing more common camera angles, and things might be analysed fairly by observers.
At present, I’m (usually) using:
World: Ambient lighting (picked a color; and intensity must be rather low)
Materials: Toon: 1,000 or less intensity
Lamp: 1 Hemi ; NO specular light;;; alternatively, instead of 1 Hemi: 1 Point or, seldom, 1 Spot.
Textures: N/A yet
Ah, so you’ve used a hemi lamp and…1,000 intensity for Toon? That can’t be right.
Anyway, I don’t really have any actual cartoon works so far. Just test renders of Suzanes with various Toon materials that I’ve been fiddling around with. Here’s a link to a render image of all four, plus two others from a youtube tutorial, Toon materials that I have created so far. In the render, there is a sun lamp and a hemi lamp in the back of the objects:
Yes, there is a medium-sized image of rendered monkey heads showing in your post.
Well, I’ve re-verified some of my lightings data; sorry, it took so long because I don’t have Internet at home so I never got the right information when needed. I’ve wrote some unprecise data before, here is more accurate:
At present, I’m (usually) using:
World: Ambient lighting: (Intensity: 2.000 or less) ; (White)
Materials: Toon: Diffuse: (Intensity: from 0.500 to 0.800) and the other data: (idem) ; Specular: all 0’s
Lamp: 1 Hemi ; NO specular light;;; alternatively, instead of 1 Hemi: 1 Point or, seldom, 1 Spot.
Textures: N/A yet
