I’ve been working on this cat for 2 days now. I’ve spent about a total of 4 hours on it so far. At this stage I have to retopogize it. (begins bowing, ‘i’m sorry, so sorry, i’m so sorry.’
I want to share what I started with. This is the mesh I created and then sculpted on.
Imo, it needs more love, before retopology.
( p.ex. neck long, boxy abdomen)
If you like, check cats without fur. (Sphynx cat).
Please keep your courage.
You do not need to be sorry.

I changed the adbomen to be less boxy. And I changed it’s neck a little bit. blender rc3 crashes when doing proportional editing, and I can’t get snake hook to make it happen either.
If you have a crashing problem that can be reproduced in RC3, please report it to the tracker (with the .blend file and steps) ASAP.
It’s a good start to say the least, but you might be restricting yourself in terms of detail if your source mesh is that minimal.
I was able to fix the neck and abdomen. The latest build has the fix for that bug.
Abdomen looks better, imo.
There are still some things - if you like.
The jaw is too large. Jaw Rotation axis slightly in front of ear entrance. If you place a circle there (orthogonal side view), and match radius for upper jaw, you can see.
Happy blending.
The latest build crashed when doing proportional editing. I’ll have to wait until after something happens with my bug report. I can fix this problem.
@Leonard_Siebeneicher
I was able to fix the jaw. I then fixed the body width, to look closer to the cats in the backyard.
Cats are one of the toughest cg creature to get right an even big studio don’t get them right so i hope you will change that in the near future.

I took the time and redone the anatomy. I had missed an important step in making anatomy the first time. To me, it looks a little bit better.
It’s getting better but the rear pawn seem too small to me and the front one a little too big but it could be a blender perspective anomaly since when you rotate an object the blender perspective view do strange distortion.
The real challenge will lie in animating the cat realistically.
Keep it up it’s a cool challenge.
@polynut
I changed the paw and also the leg. I’m using a lens of 90mm for the screen shots.
The body look good so far keep it up!
It improved. Legs too.
If you like …
Upper arms biceps might need a bit more volume.
Jaw could still be a bit shorter.
Done the some mod to the legs. Moved the jaw to make it shorter. I used a sphere for guide in orthographic view.
Very nice! Looks really odd without any ears - maybe even just quickly do “placeholder ears” until you get to the point where you want to focus on them.

I added some ears on it. And I also fixed up the nose and little bit on the face.
Jaw joints are not on the side of the lips, but more behind. On side view of a skull, you can see that jaw joints are close to the ear entrances.
Same true for humans, dogs, and many animals.
If you use circle as guide for jaw, make sure its center is on the jaw joint.
@Leonard_Siebeneicher
I moved the sphere and looked at it again. I think the jaw was in the right place. It was by accident the sphere was lined up.
I did some more work on the ears after seeing a real cat.
