I am an freelance industrial/product designer with a big interest for CG. As a industrial designer I work a lot with 3d CAD software, but since a couple of years I learned how to use Blender for my design projects. First only for visualization, but more and more for modeling and animation.
This project is a personal project, it’s an animation of a Ceramic lamp I designed and wanted to use it in a animation with the focus on the fabric cable. I want to include some macro like shot with a very detail view of the cable. I saw this project from @albin_merle: https://albinmerle.artstation.com/projects/lDE2yY
I used his method by first doing the Cloth simulation of the cable and then generate the woven cable after the cloth sim and render it as hair geometry. It’s definitely overkill, but I learned a lot from doing this project. I actually sell this ceramic lamp, and I wanted to used the exact shape/measurements and look of the lamp including the metal ring on top, so I made a 3d scan of the ceramic shade and the metal ring, and included it in the project.
