“There are two main goals for these contests: Fun and Glory.
Fun: You get only 4 days to create a cool image, based on the theme for the week.
Glory: After 2 days of voting, a winner is declared. The winner picks the theme for next week and will be featured in the Feature Row.”
For this weeks entry I wanted to create a simple model of a snowman.
I started out with three UV spheres that I shaded smooth, I the used two extruded circles for the eyes. For the hat I used a circle again, with some scaling and extruding.
I then applied some simple materials, and used a sky system for the lighting.
Busy working on other stuff, but I had a silly idea using one of the most underrated Nintendo characters.
I found the character model online and just cleaned it up, posed it and added the hat and present.
Open - the city is from city generator everything else is made by me.
I’ve had an idea in my head for a while of describing a complex scene using only silhouettes against particles, and then a few days ago I created this shader on ShaderToy, and bought the City Generator plug in around the same time, so this weekend’s topic was a good excuse to stick the two together. I rewrote the shader with geometry nodes, very loosely but with similar snow movement, and created a city block. The black/white masking is handled in the compositor using cryptomatte to isolate the snow, and I disable anti-aliasing to prevent any shades of grey though I’m sure the video compression will have added some.
