The winner picks the theme for next week.

If the winner doesn’t supply a theme before Thursday 22:30 GMT, the organizer will select the theme. In this case, the winner’s theme will be used the next time we are lacking a theme on Thursday 22:30 GMT.

Having selected the theme, the winner will not be eligible to enter that week. They may however still submit an image, but it won’t be included in the voting.

Made my choices, @Emlore I really like your entry, I will throw a vote at it if I am reassured it’s not AI.

Yours is the kind of entry that I would label as open in my mind, and still vote for it. I wanted to be sure it wasn’t AI so I wouldn’t feel foolish in the voting aftermath.

Appreciate it

My video is blocked in certain areas (USA) due to copyright issues. :sob:

I used the song “The WASP - (Texas Radio and the Big Beat)” from the Doors and YouTube didn’t like that, so it’s blocked for some users.

Same video hosted on Vimeo:

First time I’ve had an issue like this…

I asked for a wireframe render in the submission post, I’m kinda sus about the chinchillla statue and even more so now

@Emlore

And just to clarify, I’m mostly asking about this since the rest of the scene is made from what looks like (mostly) Max Hay’s asset packs (I recognize the elements because I have some of them) and tree assets
The sky background is also clearly from somewhere (at best) or generated (at worst)

So is it really a pure entry?

It’s a raw sculpt with horrible topology. Didn’t see a reason to retoplogize since it’s just a still render, and a wireframe will just look like a black blob

For the columns, I modeled them myself after his models, yes. For the burners, they are from his asset pack directly, but based on what I saw, they care more about the hero assets, and some minor kitbashing doesn’t hurt. I’m new here and this is my first submission I think, so if I got anything wrong, I could re-label the entry or delete it entirely if needed. I don’t really care about this challenge as much as I car about my face for the future

Why would you do that when you have the asset packs and the resulting mesh looks identical?

I mean there is a reason why I’m asking for a wireframe and it’s not because I think it has been retopologized, quite the opposite

Obviously to keep my submission as pure as I can

If you insist. It’s more than 800000 polygons after decimating

I meant solid view + wireframe enabled so the topology is actually visible

I had a look at the contest rules (i’m Helge will clarify further).

It says that:

  • external plugins blender kit, fx plugins, etc are not allowed
  • The image should be primarily NEW models, created for the competition. It does not specify downloaded from elsewhere
  • texture and image could come from outside image editors

My personal approach is to create my own models and textures from scratch, using as much internal Blender as possible. I also show models and construction so that there are no issues with ‘lifting’ resources and ‘making do’.

I don’t know, but this is the part of the rules that I am referring to. Again, I’m new here, and I’m totally fine if you remove the submission if deemed the right move

In the spirit of these challenges- friendly competition- and acknowledging that @Emlore has been entirely forthcoming, it’s time to let this particular discussion end.

In short: ‘pure’ entries require the important models to be new and to be created using Blender after the theme was announced. If an entry relies on external sources, models, tools, add-ons,… this usually makes the entry ‘open’. However, the final category depends on the amount of external contributions. Usually, we leave this decision to the artists, as it is difficult to decide this from the outside.

That being said, this may not always be easy or obvious.

E.g. If I manually redraw a fitting image from google pixel by pixel in Blender’s image editor: Does this make me the creator of the entry image? I only used new pixels…

So if in doubt, I recommend to keep fairness in mind and to describe how the entry was created and what resources were used. This way, the community can decide and include this information in the decision when voting.

@Emlore No need to remove the entry. If the main statue was sculpted in Blender, most of the other models were created specifically for this entry and no AI was involved, I’d keep it in the ‘pure’ category. But if you want to change categories, that’s fine too. Just let me know.

I changed the video url in the first post to vimeo. I hope if works fine for everyone - including the USA.

Sure, I appreciate your explanation

As for the entry itself, everything was made by me, in blender, within the timeframe of the contest, except for the burners and the vegetation. That’s it when it comes to full models, but it’s also worth mentioning that the sky from the background is also a texture I got from the internet. That said, feel free to evaluate the render yourself and change categories if needed
