challenging material

Can any cycles guru’s suggest a way to shade a vending machine capsule? I’ve been trying to implement absorption, as well as measure the thickness of the capsule with the light path (camera) node and geometry node for opacity fall-off at edges. results aren’t turning out that great.

The capsule model I’ve built is a ‘solid’ object, so it has thickness. not sure if this would cause problems with ray length…


Here’s one way. Just a quick set up, still needs work. Add an HDRi etc. tweak the shaders.
