I have just finished reading the character development book, and now I want to make my own character. I made the concept back in January, and I just finished the modeling sheet today. I would really like to hear what you guys think, and critique will be highly appreciated. I hope to improve my 3d skills by making this model, so if there is anything you think I can improve please let me know.
looks like a good concept, what’s the story behind this guy?
I think I’m done with the gun, at least for now…
Thanks Modron. The story is somewhat loose, but my Idea is that after Russia was nuked the area was quarantined to keep the mutants in. The quarantine is maintained by the military, who often goes on violent raids inside the quarantined area. This guy is the leader of a group of survivors. He is very dedicated to protect his followers, but one day he was waiting in the rain (with the umbrella) for his family because the were to move to a safer place, because the military was on the track of them, but the military had already been there and killed his family. He took their gas-masks with him as a memory of them, and a constant reminder that he failed to protect them, so that he would never let his people down again. Now he’s slowly going insane, because he can’t let go of those who were killed, and has become obsessed to protect the family. He kept his umbrella ever since, even though it is barely good against the rain any longer, maybe because that he is subconsciously still waiting for his family.
Looks ok from what I can see, it’s very dark
awesome looking models and story. cant wait to see how it comes together.
Thanks a lot Modron
I’ve made another mask, but I’m not sure if I like it… It is more simple than the others, which I think is fine. It is more the form that I’m not completely sure about. Maybe I’ll change it later, but for now:

Looking good, keep it up
Thanks LCG,
So… I’ve blocked the rest of the model out, and modelled the backpack:
I think it turned out pretty well
More pictures coming as soon as they are rendered. I really love the cycles render engine, but some times I just wish I could fast forward.
Hey this is looking nice Nightpixel, looking forward to seeing more.
Some nice details in there
Honestly, you can get crazy with cycles but it’s easy enough to dip your toe in the water and you can get reasonable results with little effort.
Give this a look…
Now it’s the texturing I wouldn’t be looking forward to
Nice link
I’ll watch some more cycles tutorials when I get to that part. I would like a book about cycles though, but as far as I know there are none. I guess I’ll just have to play around then.
it seems like there may be some application for the ‘bolt factory’ add-on here, do you think you will use it?
Maybe, I just made my own nails with a subdivided box, I think that it looks more like junk put together that way, whereas bolts would look more like something from a factory, but bolts could probably fit very well some places. I’ll think about it.
Sooo… I have been working on the head the last couple of days, and I got to say that it’s pretty hard. I’ve started over a few times, but I found a good tutorial, and finally I got something that resembles a head:
I’m not completely satisfied with it, and I think that I’ll sculpt the rest, but if you have any advice or suggestion that could improve the head please tell me. Because of the neck thing nothing below the nose will be shown, I just made it for the practice.
Topology looks good so far.
You want to make sure you have a loop aroound the nose and chin, and a couple around the mouth
