Children's nursery

This is a project that I finished a while ago, but I never posted it here on BA, and now with the new forum, I find myself spending a lot more time here, hence I thought I would like to post some more projects.

Children’s nursery

This was a competiton entry for a nursery in Milan. It is rooted in the fundamental idea of play. Children are very tactile and recognize playful shapes better, so the project is rooted on creating a series of playful and easily recognizable houses that children can easily associate with - the Japanese house, the Alpine house, Mongolian roundhouse, etc. They are connected by an undulating continuous space. This was completed in 2015.

Technical Info

This was my second go at the project. I learned a great deal with this about texturing, placing a serious amount of assets into a scene and rendering, and the necessary hardware to do it all.

  • All work was done in Blender including post-processing.
  • Trees came from various places - some bought, some from free forums and this was before the grove 3d came out.
  • Cars also came from various places.
  • Some of the people were modeled in makehuman and posed in blender - the kids running and standing on their hands upside down.
  • The rest of the people came from packs
  • I spent about 2 weeks getting the asphalt texture to look right
  • And the grass texture also took me about 2 weeks until I was satisfied with the result

I am generally quite happy with the result, although I wish i spent some time in photoshop placing masking the closeup people with 2d cutouts and a bit better texturing on the context buildings.
