Chroma key issue

I have a character that wears a red wig. The problem is that whenever I trie to green screening in the compositor, I can’t get rid of a yellow glow (or halo if you will) in the wig. I know that the green light is reflected back into the hair, but I don’t know how to filter it out

Note that this is only a test so the footage itselfis rather poor. But even in more advanced lightning conditions, the issue remains

I use both Blender 2.7 and 2.9.3

PS. I hope the attached files works

Only the default Cube in the blend…

Make sure to select all and Pack All into the Blend.

I tried that but the resulting Blend is 179 MB which seems be to big for the server. The reason that it is so big is that the source video file is pretty large

Okej, I reduced the file size.

Should be ok now

Nope…It’s just empty now…

Try uploading to an external host…Paste Bin or MediaFire … even Google

If you can…we only need 1 frame of the animation and your compositor nodes…

Hi. I tampered a bit and got rid of the golden halo, but there is instead a white halo so …

It wont wont pack the video file for some reason. So I’m sending it here

Try a simpler node script. A garbage matte them Keying node.

Can be done in Blender, but compositor softwares like Natron, Nuke, After Effects it’s far better. Blender comp is better used for CG simple effects, for live action it’s very slow and can get very confusing with big node scripts. Check this Nuke example.

Sorry…again this file needs access to all that have the link…
Listen to @anon39274998 I would also use Natron ( Free )

Ok, thanx. I’ll try it

No luck with Natron. It also seems to not only simpler the Blender, but also, the functionality is much more basic.

I managed to pack one png finally (Blender 2.93). So I hope this suffice as a sample to analyse the problem

It’s your despill balance, increase them a bit.

Nuke example:

With other composite softwares you will get better results. Also, keying is very affected by film grain, video compression and bit depth. If you can, try to use high quality videos like ProRes or DNxHR.

despill_balance.blend (1.2 MB)

Amazing. I can’t believe tat the solution was so easy! Thank you ever so much Lucas!

Sorry, but how do I get back the transparency of the file? All I get is this pattern with plus and minus in the background.

Figured it out!!
