Here’s my latest addition to my series of album covers redux. In 1971 Pink Floyd released “Relics”, a best-of collection of early works and b-sides. The cover featured a drawing by drummer Nick Mason, of a “Fantastical Contraption” that I just loved at the time because it looked so much like stuff I was drawing. I decided it needed to be Blenderized, but it couldn’t just sit there, it had to move. So I animated it to the song “Careful With That Axe, Eugene”.
I had some concerns about putting it on YouTube, with their copyright strikes and all, but was relieved when I got a block alert that it would not be available in Russia. I can live with that.
I kept the topology and materials and lighting as simple as possible so I could render it in EEVEE and the nearly 7 minute animation could render more or less overnight. The only segment rendered in Cycles is the Spacemen, so I could capture the reflections in the helmets.
