Clips don't play back in Movie Clip Editor

As the title suggests, clips will not play back in the Movie Clip Editor, I can watch them by scrubbing through them, but I can’t play them automatically by pressing the playback button, or using Alt + A. Is there some setting I should change, or does it just not function this way?

It’s possible that Blender cannot decompress the frames fast enough to play. Have you created a proxy to make sure that Blender recognizes the file correctly. Then you can use a proxy that Blender can definitely play.

How would I go about creating proxies?

In clip properties, turn on proxy, then select the size of proxy you are happy to view (or all the sizes if you want). Go to clip menu at the bottom and “build” the proxy and timecode. then enable the proxy view in the properties again.

It seems to work and playback automatically while proxies are being built, but as soon as they are completely built it doesn’t playback anymore.

Don’t play from a timeline you must play with mouse in the clip window.
