Hi. I decided to model a clock/thermometer/hygrometer, that was in my room. The image is okay I guess… but I’m finding that the realistic quality isnt as good as some of the other work I ve seen. Any suggestions?
The edges look a bit jagged… did you set smooth or subsurf the clock housing?
Some new lighting. Try and ake the materials brighter too. Also you should probably turn on Ambient Occlusion, which is in the world settings. MAybe think about some reflections on the (wood?) surface and get a higher detail texture. Hope this helps.
Thank you for the suggestions. I just used set smooth with auto smooth applied. I tried sub surf but it did’nt look good to me, so I just increased the degrees on the auto smooth. I tried the Ambient occlusion but I found it to be really grainy, I fiddled with all the controls but it came out the same, so I decided not to use it. Other than that I increased the brightness of the scene. Here is my latest render:

reduce the reflectivness on the table, no wood is that much polished,
other wise its looking good
i think some people find it jagged because its sized down, let ur mouse hover over it for a few seconds and click the button in the bottom right hand corner
Ambient Occlusion is really cool. You just need to up the samples to 16 to get an image with no noise in it.

This is my final render of my clock, mainly because I’m losing interest, but I’m pretty satisfied with how it came out. I would like to thank everyone who replied and gave me advice, I still did’nt use ambient occlusion even though it probably would have made it better. I just added some glass to each of the devices. I did’nt bring down the reflectiveness on the table because I forgot… It took a long time to render, (nearly 50 min, yeah my computer is super slow), so thats why I didnt fix it in case your wondering. Thank you again.
