I used curves with bevel object set to a circle, shaped them to one segment of each cloth, added 2 array modifiers, and gave them emmision materials with the value connected to the camera data - z depth.
then I rendered them with the camera set to orthographic
First of all, go to the renderlayer properties, and in the passes, tick “normal”.
Then, when you’ve rendered a frame and you have the image editor open, there’s a drop down at bottom that allows you to swap between “Combined” and other options - including “normal” - turn that on and save it.
