Coaster

Hello everyone,

the last time, I’ve been working on a coaster, I’ve learned blender 3 months ago and this is my first work here:

It still needs texture and a scene.
Hope you like it

Looks cool, but I’m pretty sure metal coaster track have 3 rails, the one underneath which then holds the two rails the carts are hooked to. I love the color combination, definetly something a park would use for a ride.

I have to admit, the rails do look flat, but that all depends on the roller coaster wheel profile (wheels with outer flanges wouldn’t need the rails to be raised off the supports) to avoid clipping.

But to me, it looks like a custom roller coaster style. Am I right in saying that?

Thanks, in fact small coasters (kiddie’s) doesn’t have a third rail, only bigger ones have them. (there are some exceptions.)

Well you’re right, in a way, this coaster type exist (intamin 2track-style) but they don’t use them for complete kiddie’s.

I added some landscape:

Some things still look fake and I still have to ad some things (tree’s and such)

Hope you like it

I prefer green.

That’s… really helpfull.

Looking better and better.

That’s…really helpful.

I was saying that green rails look better than blue, in my personal opinion. They have a more present, roller-coaster-ish feel, while blue just feels like it’s CG. It’s just the shader of it works better with green.

The green rails was better IMO.
Is the grass is only temporally? In this stage it’s too fabric. It looks like a toy. But the scene goes in the right direction.

Thanks!

Thanks, I just reacted like that because you said nothing else, but I changed it back to green

Thanks, I changed the grass. Any suggestions on how the make it more realistic. I allready watched Andrew’s tutorial.

Now I still need a background, and some more textures and nature.

Hope you like it.

I think of making the track a bit darker?
Hope you like it

I think you may want to shrink the camera sensor size in the settings (and maybe you’ll have to modify the cameras focal length after that), and make the shadows sharper, I’m thinking it will help make the scene look bigger.

Thanks for the tips, I tried something with it:

And I also worked a bit on the car:

I would love to make a kind of blueprint from the sideview? Does anyone has suggestions?

Hope you like it

Try selecting your camera then in the camera settings change it from perspective to orthographic then put your camera on the side and change the scale until it fits. By the way, I liked the blue, it reminded me of the cork screw at cedar point. Couple of things, while the path to the loading station is nice, every theme park I’ve been to has a large paved areas with metal rails that zig zag back and forth, and the trees and stuff are between the large “corral” areas. I hope that made sense lol! If you want you could add a control booth on the platform and I can’t tell for sure from the angle but after the people finish a ride, how do they leave? Other than that its looking really good!

I assume that the station on the picture is only the load-in station where from the ride start. The ride-finishing cars arrive an earlier station where the people leave them. It’s not an unusual form in the real world. It can separate the starting and the arriving people to prevent the attempt of double riding. So we can’t see the arrival station I think.

The cars are good, but I think it needs work on the shader (there’s too much reflectivity yet) and maybe on some tweaking of the subdivision surface. However I like their basic shape.

Anyway: good progress!
